SUPPORT OUR MISSION

MISSION

Whereas the vision addresses Hops Meadow’s plans for the 30-year future, the mission addresses Hops Meadow’s current operations and identifies objectives that lead to the inspired future. Hops Meadow’s family-focused farming is a commonsense application of the three pillars of corporate social responsibility: environmental protection, social equity, and economic viability, aka planet, people, and profits. Sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices are an integral part of our business. We are building a business where what is good for the environment is great for revenue. We operate a profitable agricultural enterprise with diversified revenue streams that maximize return on investment and preserve work/life balance. In concrete terms, our kids will harvest supplemental income from our fields; their friends harvest supplemental income from their fields; there’s enough income to purchase additional fields.

ABOUT

Hops Meadow Farm is the first Black-owned Hops farm east of the Mississippi. It is a regenerative farm with diverse perennial crops, including hops, apples, pears, cherries, and various berries. We process some crops for income (hops) and others to build food resiliency in the local community (apples, pears, greens, etc.).

VISION

Established in 2022 on land farmed since the early 1900s, Hops Meadow is dedicated to family-focused farming. Family-focused farming means we aim to feed our kids, pay off our mortgage and ensure our kids can keep the farm. We want our neighbors to develop sustainable agriculture so their kids can keep their farms. And we want to build the local economy in the town of Romney and the surrounding areas of Hampshire County so the children near Romney, West Virginia, can eat well, grow strong, and make a living close to home.

Our vision is much bigger than just ourselves. Family-focused farming is tied to community food resiliency because food is essential to families. As the United States enters a period of economic recession and ridiculous inflation on basic food necessities, Hops Meadow is deeply committed to developing profitable, sustainable agriculture that maintains a high quality of life for our kids and our communities. Our business is feeding people and supporting initiatives to teach people how to grow food while making the money they need to feed themselves. The SMART goal for our vision is to generate revenue to pay off the 30-year mortgage in less than 30 years while helping make healthy food available and affordable in our community.
